She said Yes!

melindsI know its been a couple of weeks since my last post. Everything has just been so crazy with the holidays approaching and of course me getting everything ready for the big day when I asked the question! But anyway, here’s how it went down…

I drove up to Newport, RI where Lindsey is a senior at Salve Regina University. It was our anniversary on November 20th, so the day had importance in our lives anyway. I arrived there around 3, we hung out for a little, then I told her we should go to Ocean Drive to watch the sunset. So we arrived and I took her on these rocks in the ocean where many wedding photos are taken. It is such a beautiful place to be, especially when the sun is setting. So we walked around on the rocks for a bit and finally sat down to watch the sunset. I was so excited to ask her that I couldn’t even wait! As we were sitting, I grabbed her hand to “warm it up”. While I was doing that, I  slipped the ring on her finger and asked her to marry me! And, she said yes! :)

Since Lindsey knows a lot more about this wedding stuff than I do, I am actually going to let her start writing some blog posts on here as well! Starts next Monday!

Have a happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Procrastinating on asking the parents!

melindsIt’s kind of funny, I’m much more nervous about asking mine and Lindsey’s parents than I am of asking Lindsey herself! And surprisingly, I think I’m less nervous about asking her parents than mine!! See, my parents are older. They feel strongly about waiting till I’m older to get married. However, Lindsey’s parents are younger. They got married at a young age. I know that her parents will understand and accept it easier than mine will. I think the hardest thing about asking Lindsey’s parents is setting up the meeting with them. Should I call in advance or just show up to their house? Haha I don’t really know. I think in this case I might just wing it and make a quick decision when the opportunity arises! As for my parents, I just need to remind them that we have been dating for 6 YEARS!!! I know we were young when we first started dating, but that’s a long time!

I’m probably just overreacting as I usually do. Hopefully I’ll get the courage to get all this done soon. Time is running out! Wish me luck! :)

Researching & Buying an Engagement Ring

Buying a great engagement ring is very important to making your soon-to-be fiancé very happy! I’ve done quite a bit of research and found many things I did not know about buying an engagement ring. The best explanations I found were on Blue Nile’s Engagement Ring Guide. That website helped me learn so much. They also have a great selection of settings and diamonds at great prices.

They have the website set up so you can choose a setting and the diamonds you want in the ring! You can hold your customized ring in your shopping cart or send yourself an email containing the specifications and a link to their site with your ring saved.  I must have customized 20 rings with all different settings before I found one that was in my price range and had everything I wanted in it. So it is nice to have been able to save those customized rings in my email.

Anyway, now that I have the ring and I’ve come up with how I’m going to ask her, I need to ask her parents and my parents! Just a little nervous!!!!!!! wish me luck!

My Tentative Plan

So as I mentioned in my last post. I have a tentative plan in my head as to what I believe I need to do to make this whole wedding situation work. This plan really just has to do with the engagement part right now because I really don’t know what’s after that, but I can’t wait to find out! So here goes.

  1. I need to buy a ring
  2. I need to plan how I want to ask her
  3. I need to talk to my parents
  4. I need to talk to her parents
  5. I need to talk to my friends
  6. I need to set up for the engagement
  7. I need to actually go through with the engagement!
  8. She has to say yes :-\

Like I said, anything after the engagement seems too far in advance for me. For now, I need to work on these 8 steps, starting with the ring buying process. Check my next post to listen to what I learned from that!

It’s been long enough

6 years is quite a bit of time to be with one person and not be engaged or married yet, don’t you agree? Well, that’s how my situation looks right now. I’m 22 years old, but I’ve been with my girlfriend, Lindsey, since high school. We’ve had a few rough times through high school and college where we have broken it off for a few months, but we always manage to end up back with each other, more in love. For the past few years, we have been really steady and are happier than ever.
As I mentioned, I am 22 years old. I just graduated from college in the spring and am now working full time. Lindsey is a senior in college and she will graduate in may 2010. Now that I am out of college and she is close enough, it’s about time to start thinking about the steps I need to take to further the relationship.

I’ve already decided I want to marry this woman and I am fully committed to this decision. I have a tentative plan up in my brain for how I think everything should work. I plan on working through this plan in the next year and of course, informing you of my experiences. Hopefully, this will help you with your journey of marriage!

Check back soon for my tentative plan!
